UWF TO TEAM UP WITH BELLATOR FOR BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 62
LAREDO – Ultimate Warrior Fighting president Oscar Enriquez loves taking chances.
Enriquez put on his first show UWF 1 back in November of 2011 and brought down former UFC star War Machine, Roger Huerta and Dave Menee and the reviews at the end of the show were above the charts.
Due to the success of UWF 1, Enriquez was already planning on putting on his second show on March 17th at the Pharr Events Center, which just happened to be the exact same place where UWF 1 was held.
However, the man who likes to take chances was given an opportunity that he couldn’t refuse.
Ultimate Warrior Fighting is teaming up with Bellator Fighting Chanpionships to put on a huge show in Laredo called “Bellator Fighting Championships 62” on March 24th at the Laredo Energy Arena.
Enriquez talks about how this opportunity took place for UWF to join forces with Bellator.
“After my first event which featured War Machine and Roger Huerta in the main event, Bellator decided to sign War Machine after his decisive victory over Roger,” said Enriquez. “On January the 15th, I got a call from a representative from Bellator and asked me if I would send some pictures of War Machine from my fight and of course I was glad to do it.”
“I got a call the next day and they told me they owed me one. So, I talked to them about my March 17th show here in the Valley and if they might possibly be interested in working together. They told me to e-mail them and that they would get back with me. Well, I got a call from the CEO of Bellator Bjorn Rebney and he told me about the show in Laredo and if I would be interested in co-promoting the event. I definitely agreed to it and from there, they sent me the contracts last Friday, signed it and now it’s official.”
Enriquez said that he will be responsible for the undercard and is going to showcase some Valley talent in Laredo.
“Bellator is going to feature their Lighweight Tournament Quarterfinals on that night and I am going to be responsible for the remainder of the card,” said Enriquez. “Since I am from the Valley and am proud of it, I wanted to showcase some of the best talent we have to offer and am bringing Dee Jay Fuentes, Joseph Daily and Elias Marks with me.”
“Dee Jay is coming off an impressive win over Nick Gonzalez who fought for Bellator before and he is getting a huge opportunity to show what he can do. As for Daily, he is a tough kid and this is going to be his comeback match and Elias Marks is going to be in a rematch against Sonny Luque of Laredo and the last time they fought, it was a war. If these guys are successful, some huge doors could open for them and I feel they will shine that night.”
Enriquez said that he is thrilled to get this opportunity to show the world what the Valley has to offer.
“This is a proud moment in my life to receive an opportunity like this and myself, as well as the fighters plan on showing everyone that the Valley is the hotbed when it comes to MMA.”
