SALINAS AWAITS PHONE CALL FOR SPOT ON THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER
LAS VEGAS – At the end of tryouts for “The Ultimate Fighter”, one of the UFC representatives announced the names of who would advance to the interview portion.
As the representative was announcing the names of who was still in, Edinburg’s Danny Salinas never heard his called and figured he was cut. But then, he heard something that was music to his ears.
“When they were doing the final cuts to see who would participate in the interview process of the tryout, my name wasn’t called and the gentleman told us that’s it,” said Salinas. “But then, he said ‘oh wait, Danny Salinas you are still in’ and I ended up being the last one to make the cut. It was amazing to hear my name called and that I was going on to the interview portion.”
Salinas talks a little about how the tryout took place and what he had to go through in order to advance.
“We were cut into groups of 40-50 and the first round consisted of grappling,” said Salinas. “I was paired with a guy from Team Wanderlai and we had a minute and a half to grapple.”
“I ended up making it past the cut and then advanced to the striking round. Basically, the striking round was broken down in groups of five and we worked on mitts. The representatives from the UFC were walking around and seeing how we hit the mitts. I was able to advance past that round and ended up in the last and final round which was the interview process.”
Salinas then went on to discuss what took place in the interview portion of the tryout.
“During the interview part of the tryout, they told us we had one minute to talk and try to persuade them as to why they should take us,” said Salinas. “They also told us that if we were going to bore them with a bunch of stuff, don’t even bother coming in.”
“When I went in, they asked questions about me and even knew some stuff about myself which was pretty cool. After the interview was done, the gentlemen told me that I was a pretty funny and cool dude and that they would contact me in two weeks to let me know if I made it or not.”
Salinas said that if he should make it to the show, then he definitely has some things to think about career wise.
“If I happen to make it, I have some serious thinking to do,” said Salinas. “I was planning on going into the Border Patrol and slowly but surely ending my MMA career.”
“However, if I get the call that I am on the show, then I need to sit down and reassess my thought process. But I am sure a lot of people will tell me that I am crazy not to go through with it.”
